How can signage be used in the public realm to bring attention to an unsuspecting or overlooked problem?
Challenges
How can we make our signage stand out in an already busy setting?
How do we convey our mission in a quick, digestable way?
Are we being too ambitious with the time constraint?
Opportunities
Experimentation with sourcing our physical materials
Who cares, let's be ambitious and create an interactive installation as well to go with it
Outcomes
100+ written cards over the day at the Fremont Sunday Market
Posted for a special feature by the Fremont Sunday Market
CONCEPTUALIZATION
This project aims to promote sustainable clothing practices and reduce overconsumption by emphasizing the meaning of clothes you already have. Find our pop-up installation at farmer’s markets, craft fairs, and flea markets across Seattle, and share your stories.
EARLY CONCEPTS
The largest problem was mostly refining the story we wanted folx to share with their clothing. How can we create an interactive exhibit that was easy to understand to passerby in an already busy environment of a farmer's market?
BEING AUTHENTIC TO OUR MISSION
Overconsumption is at the core of this project. Understanding that, we took the challenge to only used recycled materials from our existing inventory pooled together from our homes and going to Re:Creative Seattle to repurpose donated materials.
Using clothes pins and recycled clothing rack to display to keep in tune of fashion, any passerby is able to pick up a corresponding card (i.e shirt, shoes, jeans) and write a short story on the back about the clothing article they want to share. Once finished, they put it back up display creating a mosaic of stories as the day progresses.

SOME OF OUR FAVORITE SUBMISSIONS :)
THANK YOU:
Thank you Fremont Market for hosting our project as well as my wonderful teammates Caroline and Sarah for the massive amounts of hustle we pulled off to get this done from conceptualization to submission. I’m proud of us for not only completing the assignment, but being able to take it beyond with the interactive installation!
